You’ve heard of while you wait which we can do for small jobs. For longer jobs you will probably want the while you cake.

Follow the directions to our base and then you can go and visit some local coffee shops or you can go on a tour around some outstanding local shops

If you use what 3 words then a word of caution.

What3words takes you into google maps. Google maps takes you to the end of the road and then gives up and sulks. Once you get close then swap back into the W3W app and use the compass. We are at https://what3words.com/honest.pursuing.amazed

The postcode is also below but the postcode take you to the wrong place….But most people ignore this point and get lost

This is the entrance to Skene croft here we are based

We are at postcode AB39 2UE and i’ve put it in small writing in an effort to get you to look at the pictures first




Directions from various places are below



 

From the north

Heading south on the A90, Come off just after Stonehaven onto the A92.

4 miles after you leave the dual carriageway you will see a large layby on the left hand side with some bottle banks in them. 

Turn RIGHT just after here. 

Carry on up the hill. Follow this road for 2 miles. 

Turn LEFT down towards Kineff

After 100 yards turn RIGHT just before the trees

1/2 a mile along the bad tarmac road.

Do NOT turn right up towards the houses.

There should be a sign on your left for Skene croft

Carry on along the farm track past the horses field

About 200 yards and on the left there is the house marked Skene Croft

Turn in here barras blades is in the wooden workshop




From the south

 

Option 1 the A92

Heading north on the A92  2.5 miles after inverbervie you reach roadside of kinneff.

At the village hall (big white building) turn LEFT just before it.

Head along this road for about 1.4miles and just after the farm there is a copse of trees on the left. Turn LEFT here at the sign which is Leys of barras.

1/2 a mile along the bad tarmac road.

Do NOT turn right up towards the houses.

There should be a sign on your left for Skene croft

Carry on along the farm track past the horses field

About 200 yards and on the left there is the house marked Skene Croft

Turn in here barras blades is in the wooden workshop





Option 2 the A90

Heading north on A90 a few miles north of the castleton farm shop and directly after the petrol station turn RIGHT signposted Kinneff / Inverbervie.

Follow this road for 2.5 miles and turn RIGHT as signposted Kinneff.

After 100 yards turn RIGHT just before the trees

1/2 a mile along the bad tarmac road.

Do NOT turn right up towards the houses.

There should be a sign on your left for Skene croft

Carry on along the farm track past the horses field

About 200 yards and on the left there is the house marked Skene Croft

Turn in here barras blades is in the wooden workshop






Option 3 Back road from inverbervie ( about a mile of farm track)

Leaving inverbervie take the first left after you leave the bridge

Carry along this road for 1.2 Miles

Turn RIGHT at the small cottages

Sign posted Auchendrich farm 

1 mile along the tarmac road just after the wind turbine on the right you come to a crossroads

Turn LEFT here down hill slightly towards a wind turbine

On up the hill towards the forest

Carry along the road past the forest on your right and a wind turbine on your left (big isn’t it)

1/2 a mile after turning off you'll reach the top a hill

Skene croft is infront of you at the top of the hill across from you

Go down the hill and turn LEFT

Up the hill

Just after you pass the sheds turn hard right into the drive






Option 4 Back road from Grassic Gibbon ( about a mile of farm track)

Leaving Grassic Gibbon centre turn left towards inverbervie

Carry along this road for 1.2 Miles

Turn LEFT at the small cottages

Well done you are now at the side of the road without a clue where togo

With luck you are sat at the Chapel of barras B&B. You now need to point your car inland with the farm buildings on your right handside and the yellowish house to your left.

Ahead of you should be a Y junction

Take the left hand of the Y which takes you up the hill

Head along up this hill and there is a copse of trees on the left. Turn LEFT here at the sign which is Leys of barras.

 Local cafes to visit

  • Grassic Gibbon centre

    A short distance from Barras Blades.

    The Grassic Gibbon Centre celebrates the life, work and times of James Leslie Mitchell, the novelist of the Mearns, better known by his pen name Lewis Grassic Gibbon

  • Castleton farm cafe

    Located just across the A90 from Barras Blades. An excellent selection of cakes and coffees. They also have an excellent lunch menus.

    The peppered steak baguette is highly recommended

    Also supply a huge amount of fresh fuit to scotland and beyond

  • Charleton fruit farm

    Down the A92 to Montrose.

    A pick your own fruit farm which is hugely kid friendly. with a lovely little cafe

    AND they have their own asparagus field which is in the shop when in season

  • Sillyflatt fare

    On the road out of inverbervie. A nice wee farm shop with outdoor seating for hot drinks and cakes.

    In summer months they also have flowers grown in their own polytunnel as well as lots of local produce

  • Farm to table

    Just over the A90. A place where you can sometimes find us doing a mobile sharpening day.

    An outdoor seating area as well as hot drinks and a cakes.

    Often hosts pop up shops for local producers and caters

  • Phoenix bakehouse

    The local bakers in Inverbervie.

    Excellent produce and a small cafe out the back where you can have a glorious cake and a coffee

    You’ll often see us there on a Saturday morning with a giant dog
