Corru-Gator

A silly name for a useful machine. The Corru-Gator does one thing and it does it REALLY well.

One issue that you can get with scissors when they are very sharp is that instead of cutting the material you are cutting be it hair or fabric the closing action of the scissors pushes the material out of the scissor blades. It’s not a common problem but it is an annoying one. It is most common with slippery or shiny materials like silk or carbon fibre. This is one of the reasons we ask for a sample if you are cutting unusual fabrics.

Another time where you get hair slipping is when cutting hair and your client will refuses to stay still. This is commonly associated with clients who have a wet nose and a waggy tail. Which quite rare in the world of hairdressing but very common with dog groomers.

A solution to this is to put micro serration into the blades so that instead of pushing the material it is gripped and then it is cut.

This is where the Corru-Gator comes into play.

As it comes from Wolff industries it shares the same clamping system as the TAS system

Another reason for adding serrations is it will strengthen the edge of the blade for a more durable edge.

TAS and the Corru-Gator

You can see that both machines have the same arm on the front.

About £3000 worth of machinery being used to sharpen a £3 pair of scissors as a demo

First we sharpen

The scissors are mounted in the clamp of the TAS and the angle is set the normal way with a scratch test to ensure the angle is being copied from the factory.

The blade is then sharpened either on the standard wheel or here with diamond wheel

Then Serrate

The scissor is left in the clamp and it is flipped upside down and put into the Corru-Gator. The machine is started and then the scissors are pressed against the diamond wheel. This has a 72TPi thread on the wheel so once it starts to cut into the scissor it auto feeds itself along the blade.

It can be reversed to deal with left-handed scissors

The results

With this pair I stopped halfway down the blade so you can see clearly the serrations that have been put into the blade.

If you have trouble with your scissors pushing then get in touch and we can do this as part of a standard sharpen.

If you are a groomer we can put this into the thumb blade and if you don’t like it we can sharpen the blade again to remove it
